TRAINING AND SUPPORT
Families new to fostering at York participate in an intensive pre-service training program called
Parent Resources for Information, Development, and Education (PRIDE), after which they and the
foster care department will assess the fit of fostering to the family's lifestyle.
Once a foster family has been approved, they will work with their Foster Care Support Worker to
develop a personalized learning plan and continue to attend skills development courses.
Foster parents are important members of the child's care team. Once a child has been placed with
them, Foster Parents will work with and get support from a variety of professionals - child welfare workers, social
workers, child and youth care workers, medical and mental health professionals - to help meet the child's needs.
