York Region CAS is thrilled to announce that four members of our Agency’s Youth Advisory Council (YAC) have been selected to join the YouthCAN Provincial Youth Advisory Committee (YPYAC).

The selected YAC members will be joined by eight other youth from across the province to ensure that their voices and recommendations to the Ontario Child Welfare Sector are heard.

In particular, the committee will discuss:

  • The development and delivery of provincial programs for youth in and transitioning from the Ontario Child Welfare System.
  • Advocacy to improve the experiences of children and youth in and from care.

The purpose of the Committee is to ensure that youth voices are embedded into the critical work that is done to better support outcomes for children, youth, and families across Ontario. Hearing and learning from those with lived experience in child welfare plays an integral role in understanding the way in which the system needs to change and evolve.

The new YPYAC joined YouthCAN Staff Champions in May for a day of learning and team building to build better outcomes for children and youth in care. Please stay tuned for updates.

On behalf of York Region CAS, we are so proud of our YAC and can’t wait to see all the great work the YPYAC will undertake in the upcoming year. We wish all the youth who are part of the Committee best wishes and congratulations!
