On Tuesday, June 24, 2025, York Region Children’s Aid Society held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) to reflect on the past year’s accomplishments, conduct essential governance business, and celebrate the ongoing commitment of our staff, foster parents, volunteers, Board members, and community partners.

Hosted by one of our Agency’s Youth Advisory Council Co-Chairs, the AGM began with a grounding land acknowledgment and black ancestral statement delivered by a fellow council member.

Thereafter, York Region CAS Board Chair, Saira Salman, called the meeting to order and approval of the agenda.

Key highlights from this year’s AGM included:

· Presentation of 2024/25 York Region CAS Annual Report

· Treasurer’s Report and acceptance of audited financial statements

· Election of Directors

The Agency also recognized the invaluable contributions of two of our outgoing Board members: Tim Flemming and Justin Rangooni. Both were given magnificent pieces of hand-painted art from one of our Agency’s talented youths for their dedication and commitment to the wellbeing of children, youth, and families in our community.

Attendees at the AGM also had the chance to hear meaningful reflections from Saira Salman (York Region CAS Board Chair), Laura Davidson (York Region CAS Acting CEO), and Danette Blue (Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services Program Manager).

This year’s keynote address titled, “Promising Practices for Youth,” was delivered by Chief Operating Officer of StepStones for Youth, Liora Sobel, who brought valuable insights and shared meaningful experience to the occasion.

On behalf of York Region CAS, we extend our deepest thanks to our Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, ministry representatives, and community stakeholders for their continued dedication to child welfare and family wellbeing in York Region.
