York Region Children’s Aid Society was proud to welcome representatives from the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services, including Assistant Deputy Minister Linda Chihab, for a meaningful discussion with youth and staff.
During the meeting, youth had the opportunity to share their experiences navigating the child welfare system. They spoke candidly about both the positive supports they have received and the challenges they have encountered, offering valuable insights into how services can continue to evolve and improve. By sharing their perspectives, the youth demonstrated the important role their voices play in shaping a better experience for future generations of children and youth.
In addition to hearing directly from youth, ministry representatives met with members of the York Region CAS staff team to learn more about current initiatives, successes, and challenges facing the child welfare sector.
The visit also provided an opportunity for ministry representatives to participate in a youth drop-in program taking place at the same time. This allowed them to connect with youth in a more informal setting, learn more about the supports and services available, and witness firsthand the sense of community fostered through York Region CAS youth programming.
York Region CAS is grateful to our wonderful youth who participated and shared their experiences. Their honesty, insight, and willingness to speak about their journeys help inform meaningful conversations and contribute to positive change within the child welfare system.
