Last week, York Region CAS joined child welfare organizations across Ontario in recognizing Foster Family Appreciation Week, an opportunity to celebrate and thank the foster caregivers who open their hearts and homes to children and youth during times of need.

On October 22, we were proud to welcome foster caregivers, children and youth in care, and staff for an afternoon of connection and celebration, recognizing the invaluable role foster families play in supporting children and youth across York Region.

Over the past several years, foster families have helped children and youth navigate extraordinary challenges, including virtual schooling, social isolation, and the transition beyond the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Their ongoing support has helped young people feel safe, connected, and cared for.

At York Region CAS, we recognize that every child and youth is unique. Foster caregivers play an important role in creating environments where children and youth feel safe, valued, and affirmed in their identities, cultures, languages, beliefs, sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions.

To all our foster families, thank you for your dedication, resilience, and unwavering commitment to the children and youth in our care. Your compassion and support make a meaningful difference every day. During Foster Family Appreciation Week and throughout the year, we celebrate and honour the vital role you play in helping children and youth thrive.
