The Polar Plunge for Special Olympics is an exhilarating fundraising event that challenges individuals, organizations, and businesses to take a bold leap into icy waters in support of an important cause. Participants, known as Plungers, collect sponsorships for their brave dive, with funds going directly toward Special Olympics programs, including year‑round training and competitive opportunities for athletes with intellectual disabilities.

For the 2026 Polar Plunge, York Region Children’s Aid Society (YRCAS) proudly joined York Regional Police (YRP) for another unforgettable plunge. Inspired by the theme SUPER HEROES, our teams helped support YRP in raising an incredible $75,000 for Special Olympics, making a meaningful impact in our local community.

Strong Partnerships, Shared Purpose

This event also highlighted the strength of our Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) partnerships, reflected in the participation of leaders from across our organizations:

  • Jacqueline Davis, Supervisor, York Region Children’s Aid Society & CYAC MDT Coordinator
  • Alison Peck, Executive Director, Cedar Centre Child & Youth Advocacy Centre
  • Kevin Cook, Detective Sergeant, York Regional Police – Special Victims Unit
  • Adam Rop, Supervisor, Dnaagdawenmag Binnoojiiyag Child & Family Services

We also extend our appreciation to our MDT partner Jewish Family and Children’s Services, who were unable to attend but remain a valued collaborator in this important work.

A Shared Vision for Children and Youth

Imagine a place where all children and youth in York Region who have experienced physical, sexual, or emotional abuse or neglect feel welcome and safe. A place where criminal justice, child protection, and mental health services are fully integrated and under one roof. A place where multi-disciplined teams are committed to ensuring that our processes do not cause further harm. A place where everyone is dedicated to ensuring the right resources are in place to help children/youth and their families begin to heal from the trauma.

This collaboration reflects the shared vision of Cedar Centre, York Region Children’s Aid Society, York Regional Police, Dnaagdawenmag Binnoojiiyag Child & Family Services, and Jewish Family and Children’s Services.

That vision began through conversations with key community stakeholders who support children and youth who have experienced abuse. Together, we agreed: we can do better. By strengthening how we work together, we can ensure that every child, youth, and family receives the very best child‑focused investigation, treatment, support services, and advocacy all under one roof.

Over the coming years, we will continue working toward the development of York Region’s first Child & Youth Advocacy Centre (CYAC) – a safe, welcoming place that minimizes further trauma, respects the diversity of our community, and puts the needs of children and youth first.

The Polar Plunge reminded us that when we come together, whether diving into icy waters or building systems of care, we truly can be superheroes for our community
