As we kick off National Volunteer Week, we are excited to launch a three-part volunteer spotlight series to recognize and celebrate the incredible individuals who give their time and resources to support the children, youth, and families that our Agency serves.

Today, we are proud to recognize York Region CAS Former Board Member, Richard Kinch. Richard has served as a Board Member for nine years in various capacities, including Chair of the Board and Chair of the Governance Committee.

What inspired you to start volunteering with York Region CAS?

I was inspired to join the Board of the York Region Children’s Aid Society because I believe deeply in advocating for high-risk children and families. Growing up, I saw firsthand how important a stable, supportive environment is for a child’s development. Joining the Board was an opportunity to contribute my skills and experience to an organization that plays a critical role in protecting children and strengthening families in our community.

Can you share one memorable moment or experience you’ve had while volunteering?

I was fortunate one year to have the opportunity to attend the Holiday Party for youth in care. I was so impressed with the many accomplishments these youth had achieved under difficult circumstances and the amazing resilience they displayed in making their way through life. Absolutely inspirational.

How has volunteering impacted your personal growth?

Volunteering has given me the opportunity to work with caring people from diverse backgrounds, enriching my understanding of community and the value of service. It also sparked a lasting passion for advocacy and lifelong learning in the not-for-profit world.
