To recognize and honour Children and Youth in Care Day, York Region CAS hosted a picnic at Brooks Farms on May 14, 2025.
With approximately 100 people in attendance, including children, youth, caregivers, foster parents, and York Region CAS staff, the event was an opportunity to acknowledge the resilience and strength of young people in and from care.
Participants enjoyed a day filled with food and meaningful connections, including taking part in a variety of activities such as face painting, a petting zoo, flower planting, and much more!
This year’s picnic reflected the Ontario Association of Children’s Aid Societies (OACAS) #ForgetMeNot campaign by focusing on the #LittleWins of young people with lived experience interacting with Ontario’s child welfare system.
At York Region CAS, Children and Youth in Care Day is an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to amplifying young people’s voices and ensuring that their experiences are heard and valued.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Brooks Farm for hosting us and to Feed Me Fine Foods for their support and commitment in giving back to the community.
We also extend our heartfelt thanks to the Town of Newmarket for officially recognizing Children and Youth in Care Day with a signed proclamation.
On behalf of York Region CAS, we would like to thank our Youth Events Committee and all those involved in organizing the picnic for a wonderful evening spent together in recognition of Children and Youth in Care Day.
