On May 14, we recognize Children and Youth in Care Day—an important opportunity to celebrate the strength, resilience, and voices of children and youth in and from care.
This year’s theme, Rising in Strength and Story, builds on previous themes of Forget Me Not and Celebrating Little Wins, continuing a powerful narrative of visibility, growth, and self-determination. It acknowledges that children and youth in care are not defined by the child welfare system or other systems they must navigate. Instead, they are defined by their unique strengths, experiences, achievements, and perspectives.
Through intentional recognition, meaningful support, and opportunities for self-expression, this day reinforces every young person’s right to be seen, heard, and empowered to shape their own future.
Children and Youth in Care Day also shines a light on the importance of amplifying youth voices and creating spaces where their stories can be shared and celebrated. By listening and learning from their lived experiences, we can continue to strengthen our communities and better support positive outcomes for all young people.
Together, let’s honour and uplift the voices of children and youth in and from care—not just today, but every day.
