Today, on World Youth Skills Day, we celebrate the talents, resilience, and potential of young people in York Region and around the world. This annual observance recognizes the importance of equipping youth with the knowledge, practical skills, and confidence they need to succeed in education, employment, and everyday life.

At York Region Children’s Aid Society, we believe every young person deserves the opportunity to build a strong foundation for the future. Through our Youth Support services, youth are empowered to develop practical life skills, explore educational pathways, strengthen their independence, and connect with opportunities that support their personal goals.

Since January 2026, the Youth Support team has facilitated more than 200 individual and group interactions, connecting youth with one-on-one support, workshops, community resources, and meaningful experiences that help prepare them for adulthood.

Throughout the year, youth have participated in programming focused on:

  • Employment readiness, including résumé writing, interview preparation, workplace communication, and job search strategies.
  • Financial literacy through budgeting, banking, taxes, investing, and money management.
  • Independent living skills, including cooking, grocery shopping, meal planning, housing readiness, and other everyday life skills.
  • Post-secondary planning through scholarship writing, OSAP workshops, college and university application support.
  • Mental health and wellness programming that promotes resilience, healthy coping strategies, and overall well-being.
  • Workforce certifications, including Smart Serve, Food Handler, and other employment-focused credentials.
  • Leadership and advocacy opportunities through the Youth Advisory Council.
  • Cultural identity and belonging through inclusive programming and community celebrations.

These opportunities are made possible through the dedication of our staff and the many community partners who generously share their time, knowledge, and expertise with the youth we serve. Together, they help create supportive environments where young people can learn, grow, and build confidence in their abilities.

We are also proud of the leadership demonstrated by the York Region CAS Youth Advisory Council, whose members help elevate youth voice and leadership across our organization.

On this World Youth Skills Day, we celebrate the achievements of the young people we serve and the collective efforts of everyone who helps create opportunities for them to succeed.

Happy World Youth Skills Day!
