Today, on World Youth Skills Day, we recognize the creativity, resilience, and potential of young people in York Region and around the world. This day highlights the importance of equipping youth with essential skills through education, training, and hands-on experiences that prepare them for adulthood and future success.
At York Region Children’s Aid Society, we are proud of the many youth-focused programs that have grown over the years thanks to the dedication of our staff and community partners. These programs are designed to be holistic, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive—supporting young people as they build confidence, develop self-advocacy skills, and prepare for independent living.
In the past year, our Agency’s youth in care have taken part in a variety of engaging opportunities, including:
- Financial literacy sessions
- OSAP and scholarship workshops
- Tax filing support
- Investing and savings education
- Cooking classes and nutrition programs
- Housing readiness workshops
- Mental health and wellness programs
- Post-secondary application support
- Recreational and leadership activities
Each of these initiatives helps foster important life skills and builds a strong foundation for the future. We are especially proud of the York Region CAS Youth Advisory Council, whose ongoing contributions in consultation, resource development, and youth advocacy have made a lasting impact on our Agency and community.
Thank you to all the staff and partners who work tirelessly to support our youth. Your efforts continue to create meaningful opportunities for growth, belonging, and success.
