For more than two decades, Dr. Janet Seow has opened her heart and home as a foster parent with the York Region Children’s Aid Society, providing care and guidance to over 30 children.

While raising two sons of her own alongside her husband David, Dr. Seow also earned her Ph.D. and now shares her expertise as a faculty member at Humber Polytechnic.

Her dedication to fostering goes well beyond her own household. Dr. Seow is a passionate advocate for the recruitment of new foster families and actively supports innovative projects aimed at strengthening the fostering community at York Region CAS.

Today, we are thrilled to celebrate one of our own.

Dr. Seow is the recipient of the 2025 Outstanding Educator in Child and Youth Care Award by the Ontario Association of Child and Youth Care (OACYC).

As highlighted in the OACYC’s official announcement, “Dr. Seow was nominated by Heather Perl and Cristina Guerrero for her exceptional leadership in education, mentorship, and scholarship. She has made a lasting impact on students and the broader Child and Youth Care community. Her ability to foster inclusive, relational, and reflective learning environments is truly inspiring—and we are honored to recognize her outstanding contributions to the field.”

Congratulations, Dr. Seow! We are incredibly proud of all that you’ve accomplished—and we know there’s even more to come
