On October 6, 2026, York Region Children’s Aid Society (York Region CAS) was proud to join 360°kids, community partners, funders and supporters for the official opening of Herefordshire House in Newmarket.

The opening marks an important milestone in addressing youth homelessness and strengthening supports for young people transitioning to independence. Herefordshire House will become part of 360°kids’ growing network of youth housing programs across York Region, helping ensure that youth have access to stable housing, meaningful supports and opportunities for success, no matter where they are on their journey.

Located in Newmarket, Herefordshire House was made possible through an investment of more than $1.7 million from the Government of Canada through the Reaching Home program, along with the generous support of United Way Greater Toronto, The Home Depot Canada Foundation, Hockey Helps the Homeless, and other community partners.

The project was also developed in close collaboration with York Region CAS, helping strengthen the transition between the child welfare system and community-based housing and support services for young people leaving care.

Herefordshire House represents a significant investment in youth homelessness prevention and helps address a critical gap in York Region’s housing continuum. Research consistently demonstrates that youth leaving care face some of the highest risks of homelessness in Canada. Without stable housing and appropriate supports, many young people encounter barriers as they transition to adulthood. Herefordshire House was created to help change that reality.

The home will accommodate up to five youth at a time and is expected to support dozens of young people in the years ahead. Residents will have access to a comprehensive range of supports, including:

  • Housing stabilization and case management
  • Employment and career development programming
  • Educational supports and scholarship opportunities
  • Life skills training and mentorship
  • Mental health and counselling services
  • Connections to family, community and natural supports

The opening of Herefordshire House reflects the power of collaboration and a shared commitment to ensuring young people have the resources, stability and support they need to thrive.

York Region CAS extends its sincere congratulations and thanks to 360°kids for its leadership and ongoing commitment to supporting vulnerable youth across our community.
