May 14 is Children and Youth in Care Day – a day that serves as an opportunity to honour the strength, resilience, and contributions of children and youth in and from care.

Established through the advocacy of young people and formalized by the Ontario government in 2014, this day acknowledges the unique challenges faced by children and youth in care and highlights the importance of community support in their lives.

This year’s campaign continues to emphasize the stories of young people in and from care and the influential people in their lives who contributed to their well-being, as well as their #LittleWins. #LittleWins look different for everyone – completing a homework assignment or project, making a new friend, learning how to cook a new meal, getting a driver’s license, renting an apartment for the first time, going back to school to complete a program.

At York Region CAS, we recognize the significance of Children and Youth in Care Day as an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to listening to and advocating for youth in care. We aim to ensure that their voices are heard and their experiences valued, fostering a supportive environment for their growth and well-being.

Join us on May 14 in showing children and youth in and from care they belong and are part of a community – one that will celebrate the #LittleWins!
